On this World Health Day, I would like to start a conversation about depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. If these illnesses are left untreated they can result in catastrophic outcomes. On this episode of ON THE WIRE, I would like to share a conversation that I had with Simon Sharky Clark. Simon’s story is one of those examples when a mental illness is left untreated, life can quickly spiral out of control.
A marriage failure sent Simon into a downward spiral of prescription drugs, alcohol and a constant self-narrative of failure and worthlessness. Businessman by day self-loathing, depressed and broken man by night. This spiral continued until, on the night of the 10th of August 2006. On that night Simon decided to walk out of his life with a death wish. He could see no way out!! He got into his work van and proceeded to barrel along the freeway on a mission, a death mission. With all hope, seemly lost Simon consciously took aim at a power pole.
With that impact, Simon sustained horrific injuries and can recall just wanting to close his eyes and drift off. Fortunately, this wasn't the case. Simon had to set about rebuilding his life piece bu piece. He had to mend physically and mentally.
Today Simon is an author, speaker and coach inspiring others to seek a greater purpose and passion.
