The 21st of December marks Gravy Day and that means it's time to blast Paul Kelly's Christmas classic on whatever speakers you've got access to. Gravy Day marks the date in Kelly's song, which is about a prisoner who won't be home with his family for Christmas. The lyrics are the letter the prisoner, Joe, is writing to Dan, of whom he asks, "Won't you kiss my kids on Christmas Day, please don't let 'em cry for me". Joe then laments about missing everyone coming together and not being there to make the gravy to go with the roast. Just add flour, salt, a little red wine, And don't forget a dollop of tomato sauce, For sweetness and that extra tang, Wish each other "happy gravy day" and debate whether you should put tomato sauce in the recipe.
