A Cuppa, a Biscuit, and a Conversation That Could Save a Life: Launching The Unbreakable Conversation Project

Out in rural, regional and remote Australia, we often pride ourselves on our resilience. We get on with the job, shoulder the load, and push through the tough times. But what I’ve learnt through my journey, and through the work I do as The Unbreakable Farmer, is that true strength comes from connection from being able to talk, to listen, and to support one another.

That’s why I’m so proud to announce the launch of The Unbreakable Conversation Project, in partnership with Butterfingers Shortbread and the Rinoldi Group. This isn’t just another awareness campaign. It’s a grassroots project born from conversation, generosity, and kindness, the kind that starts around a kitchen table or out the back of a ute.

The spark for this idea came from a conversation I had with Bill Quayle, Director of the Rinoldi Group, at the Alexandra Truck Show Sponsors Dinner earlier this year. It was one of those genuine, no-nonsense chats, the kind that makes you think, we can actually do something here. Bill’s passion for community, his generous spirit, and his belief in the importance of mental health aligned perfectly with the work I’ve been doing across Australia for years.

That chat planted the seed. And now, we’ve grown something pretty special.

At the heart of The Unbreakable Conversation Project are the three pillars I base all my work on: Communication, Connection and Support.

We know that talking really talking is one of the most powerful tools we have for looking after our mental health. A simple conversation can break through isolation. It can be the moment someone realises they’re not alone. It can be a lifeline.

But sometimes we need something to make starting that conversation a little easier.

That’s where Butterfingers Shortbread comes in.

These little biccies are more than just a sweet treat, they’re a tool for connection. Whether it's sharing a cuppa with a mate, checking in with a neighbour, or spending time with family, the act of sitting down together and sharing a biscuit can open the door to deeper, more meaningful conversations.

It might sound simple, but that’s the beauty of it. Some of the most important conversations I’ve had in my life happened over a cuppa and something sweet. This project taps into that same everyday power.

Butterfingers Shortbread itself has a beautiful story. Baked with care in the Yarra Valley, they’ve been a part of Australian homes for decades. Under the stewardship of the Rinoldi Group, one of Australia’s oldest food manufacturers, the Butterfingers brand has been lovingly preserved and reinvigorated. It represents heritage, quality, and heart, everything this project stands for.

The Rinoldi Group, led by Bill and his team, has shown incredible generosity and vision in bringing this project to life. Without their support, none of this would’ve happened. They didn’t just want to slap a logo on a product, they wanted to genuinely support the mental health and wellbeing of the communities I serve.

Through this partnership, boxes of Butterfingers will be distributed in communities where I work, farming towns, tradie sheds, community events, and workshops, anywhere people come together. They’ll be handed out with purpose: as a reminder that checking in on someone, or opening up yourself, could make a world of difference.

The Unbreakable Conversation Project isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about starting conversations that remind people they matter. That someone’s listening. That support is out there.

We’re not waiting for crisis to strike. We’re showing up now, with biscuits, a cuppa, and a willingness to talk.

Because when we talk, we heal. And when we connect, we thrive.

I want to thank Bill Quayle, the Rinoldi Group, and Butterfingers Shortbread for believing in this mission and helping make it real. This is what partnership looks like, people coming together with open hearts and a common goal to create change where it’s needed most.

So next time you sit down with a cuppa and crack open a Butterfingers biscuit, think about who you could check in with. Start a conversation. It might just be the most important one you’ll ever have.
